(text-style: "bold")[Synopsis:] The panic, the anxiety, the depression. It all started with a phone call no child should ever have to hear. And the call came to a full-time student at the University of California, Santa Cruz as he was midway through the final quarter of his first academic year. He was an eighteen-year-old named Desmond. The nights leading up to the call were stressful, restless, and produced little sleep. Desmond’s father was a year and nine months into his battle with melanoma skin cancer, and his mother called to tell him that his battle was nearing the end.
He thought he would have another summer with his father, but all he got was three final days, which were the most disturbing and traumatic for Desmond. After his father passed, his life took a downward spiral. Overcome by grief, Desmond struggled academically and emotionally. He even came close to losing his grip on life. It was only under the strangest of circumstances and even stranger occurrences that his life would finally begin to turn around.

The first story is titled "The Aquarist's Burden," where we're introduced to Charles, a laid-off dishwasher who's entrusted by his childhood friend to care for his aquarium while he's off abroad amidst a pandemic. The caveat? Charles is gravely inexperienced with aquariums and things quickly go awry. The second is called "A Most Pleasant Night," in which the lives of an affluent family in Beverly Hills take a turn for the worse in what started as a pleasant Friday evening. The third story is called "A Mother's Gift," and it follows a female detective with supernatural abilities piecing together the tragic events of a brutal killing on a college campus.

//Project Fatal Tide// is a metroidvania game that I'm currently developing with fellow UC Santa Cruz game design alumni and external collaborators. It is a horror-mystery, action-adventure metroidvania set in the final days of the Golen Age of Piracy. The game follows an enigmatic pirate captain and his crew escaping a British naval fleet, only to be swept off to a hidden island where dark mysteries and even more horrific enemies lie.
I'm working with the creative lead in outlining the overall story and fleshing out the backstories for the main player character, along with the dozen valuable crew members aboard the ship. I'm developing the backstory and lore of the main villains and the island, as well as writing journal entries from the points of view of explorers who've had previous encounters with the island. I'm conceptualizing the bosses that players will encounter, providing vivid descriptions of their appearance. I'm storyboarding the cinematic cutscene elements and writing compelling dialogue for the character interactions. And I'm consulting with the sound department on the style of music to match the eerie ambiance of each area.

*Love Heist Romeo* is a game about a naive bunny named Romeo who embarks on a quest for True Love. Players follow a Wizard’s advice to the Overworld where they can explore three unique otherwordly realms, collect magical orbs, and discover the Wizard's past through interactions with whimsical characters! *Love Heist* is a 2D, narrative-driven exploration game! And it is now the honorary recipient of three UCSC game awards including Audio, Worldbuilding, and Capstone Production.
*Love Heist Romeo* is my Senior UCSC Capstone Game Development project where I'm the lead writer and narrative designer on the development team. My tasks include writing, editing, and iterating the game's beginning and ending cutscene scripts, as well as writing multiple variations of NPC scripts for our three essential recurring characters which I also implement into Yarn files for programmers. I am also tasked with writing memoir chapters in the form of poetry that players receive in-game and writing one-line dialogue barks for our numerous townsfolk NPC characters that populate our worlds as part of our environmental storytelling aspect. Most importantly, I'm constantly outlining and updating the game’s core narrative documentation and coordinating with our game design team members for narrative consultation on our minigames.
